The Autism Act
The ASD Welsh Assembly Strategic Action Plan:
The Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Strategic Action Plan for Wales was published in 2008. Its aim is to drive improvements across services for children, young people and adults in health, social services and education services. It will also expand into areas of housing, leisure and society in general.
Funding of £1.8million was identified for the first year’s mapping activities and as of November 2010 we are now coming to the end of the third year of funding. See the link to the ‘progress on the stategic action plan’ below for full details of funding.
The Welsh Assembly Government have also produced ASD Awareness Raising Booklets which you can find by scrolling down this page or click the link below. These aim to help families, practitioner groups, carers and other people working or living with autism.

Cross Party Group On Autism in the Welsh Assembly
In Wales healthcare services are devolved from the UK Parliament and are under the governance of the Welsh Assembly. Wales therefore has its own Cross Party Autism Group (CPAG) made up of Assembly Members (AMs).
The group was set up in May 2003 to be a forum to raise awareness and promote the interests of people with autistic spectrum disorders, their families and carers in the National Assembly for Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government. Their meetings are apparently always well attended by people on the autism spectrum, parents and carers, professionals from the fields of local government, education and medicine, and Assembly Members.
At present the Chair is Janet Ryder (Plaid Cymru AM for North Wales)
Other members include:
Jenny Randerson, (Liberal Democrat AM for Cardiff Central but is stepping down from the Assembly in May 2011);
Mark Isherwood (Conservative AM for North Wales);
Sandy Mewies (Labour AM for Delyn);
Jocelyn Davies (Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales East).

You can also contact the CPAG on: 02920 629316 or by emailing cpagwales@nas.org.uk

Please note Cross-Party Groups may be set up by Members in respect of any subject area relevant to the Assembly. A Group must include Members from three political party groups represented within the Assembly. Cross-Party Groups are not formal Assembly groupings and are not, therefore, bound by any of the Assembly’s Standing Orders. They have no formal role in policy development.
