Support

”You are not alone. So who can help?”

The Autism Directory was created because parents do not need to feel isolated and on their own. There is help and support out there, but if people don’t know where it is, or how to access it, then it is of no benefit to them .

There are many parent groups that meet across the country, many online communites where parents gather to share advice and resources, and there are many charities also there ready to help and support you.

The support is there for you on an individual level to give practical help and advice for your family situation and needs. You just need to know it’s there and how to get it.

The problem has been, until now, that it has been very hard to find that support or even know what is there and available to you.

As parents ourselves we know we often just want to shout and scream and share that frustration with people that understand. We want someone to talk to, not necessarily to get answers, but just to be listened to and know that we won’t be judged for the way we sometimes feel about ourselves, our children and what we think about the life that seems to have chosen us.

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them”

- Mother Teresa

Other times we need practical help and sometimes we need that more intensive support for when things are a bit tougher than usual and we know we can only get that from those who really appreciate and understand what we’re going through.

Great relationships and long-term friendships are some of the benefits of connecting with other parents and families with autism. When you share a common bond it brings people together in a community creating friendships for support and building strength as a group to fight for the changes needed in our society for the future of our children.

Many parents in the autism community across the country are working together to push for changes for a better today and a much brighter future for our children. If this interests you in any way, please contact us and we will share what we’re up to.
