“With treatment and therapy can Autism be cured?”
As autism diagnosis rates increase the debate continues as to whether it is in fact more prevelant or just being over diagnosed. The debate about what causes autism is just as emotional and political with many people having strong beliefs about what caused autism in their child.
With regards to a ‘cure’ for autism the debating continues. Some argue there is no cure while others state that it is completely reversible. Many in the autistic community themselves find this debate rather offensive as it implies that they as people need to be cured, when what they really need is to be accepted.
What is without question is that each person with autism is unique, and the best way to help that person with the challenges they may have (physical, medical, physcological or whatever), is a unique plan that is geared towards helping them achieve a specific outcome. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach when dealing with autism.
Many families across the world have found various treatments and therapies beneficial in helping children and adults with some of the many associated symptoms of autism.
These can range from autism specific therapies such as Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) or the Son Rise programme, through to treatments for autism symptoms such as the Biomedical approach, and then also some non-autism specific complimentary therapies like homeopathy and reflexology.

The purpose is to help with the specific challenges they have. It is not intended to necessarily ‘cure’ the autism, although some feedback has suggested that many autistic traits have been significantly reduced due to various approaches, which will be specific to the individual.
We cannot and do not endorse any particular approach, treatment or therapy. The purpose of describing them here is so you can research the options independently to find something that would be best suited to the person with autism and thier particular situation. Please seek help and professional advice before starting any therapy or treatment.
