Autism familes are like any other who need and buy things, but we would like businesses from whom we buy to understand the needs of our children.
For example, if a local photographer was ‘autism aware’ and understood our children it would be so much easier for us as parents to contemplate a photo shoot and we would definately choose a photographer who was known to be autism friendly.
The types of business here are endless… restaurants, hairdressers, dentists, toy shops, leisure centres, insurances to name a few, and the benefits to your business is that you get to distinguish yourselves from your competition in a very niche market.
If you were known to be aware of autism and aware of the needs of autism families, autism parents, adults and children would be more likely to buy from you.
The ‘Market’
There is an estimated 6 million people in the UK that are directly impacted by autism in their family. Currently as many as 1 in 40 boys are being diagnosed, with boys being 4 times more likely than girls to have autism. It is more prevalent now than childhood cancer, AIDS and Down’s Syndrome combined. As diagnosis rates rise, awareness of this condition will grow and more and more families will be looking for help. The Autism Directory is here to point them in the direction of that help.

On successful completion you will get our ‘Autism Friendly Mark’ which you can use in your entry on this directory giving confidence to autism parents that you understand.
As autism parents ourselves we would be only too happy to give our business to those who took the effort to understand our needs and those of our children too. In a society that often makes us feel isolated and misunderstood, the more businesses that take the lead and show they are autism aware, the sooner we can create an acceptance that it’s ok to be different in this world.
