Positive Autism Support and Training (PAST)

Whether you have just received a diagnosis of an Autistic Spectrum Condition or have been living with ASC and associated disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety, Obessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) for some time it can be difficult and bewildering for parents. It is hard to know who to turn to for help. PAST offers a full package of practical and emotional support for families to make these difficulties less challenging. The aim of our support programme is to ensure that parents are given all the strategies needed to empower them to help their children meet their full potential. The PAST team includes experienced Famiy Consultants, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Behaviour Management Coaching. All PAST Family Consultants have extensive experience of working with children and young people on the Autism Spectrum and associated conditions. So how does PAST work? Step 1 - Contact the PAST Team. Step 2 - A Past Family Consultant will meet you and your child at home to discuss your requirements and any concerns you may have. Step 3 - If your child has had any form of assessment by a Speech and Language Consultant, Educational Psychologist, Occupational Therapist etc we will ask to use this information to help guide us to put together a unique package for your child. If you have not had assessments done but feel the need for your child to be assessed we can arrange this for you. Step 4 – Using information from parents and from assessments each child will be set appropriate targets in the following areas: •Social Skills •Communication Skills •Behaviour •Cognition and Learning Your Family Consultant will then design a unique age appropriate programme designed to help your child maximise their potential which can be delivered in the home or school environment by parents and the Family Consultant. Step 5 – The Family Consultant is on hand to offer advice to parents and other individuals working with the child for the duration of the Programme, and will help with transitions to schools, pre-schools etc. If required we will also work closely with your child’s school or SENCO to ensure that strategies can be implemented in all areas of the child’s life.
